Just started following Tall Girl Tales a few weeks ago and looooved her online fashion finds. So when KT and I were talking over christmas about finding a great leather jacket, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask for suggests. and she delivered!
So I was talking with my BF’s sister about her search for the perfect black leather jacket. She’s a fashion merchandising major and this is definitely a wardrobe staple. I suggested that the post-christmas sales would be a great time to but wasn’t sure where to start…
I love this video for a number of reasons. #1 being that my amazingly smart, driven and beautiful friend Kara is featured talking about her experience switching from an expensive private college to UConn, her state university.
The second reason I love it so much is as UConn grad and former private school snob, I think this video gets it right. I had an amazing experience at a public university and was able to graduate debt free, unlike many of my peers at private institutions. And while a state school may not be the right fit for everyone, I think it was definitely a smart choice for me.
Finally, as a UConn admissions rep, I spend all day erry’day reading college applications and I hope that the awesome, funny, intelligent students who I read end up making the best choices for themselves so that they can use their potential to go out and do great things for society, instead of worrying about loans.
(Plus I want all the good ones to go to UConn lol)
However, even though I can’t go to the Yule Ball I can still Potter it Up this holiday season through the Harry Potter Alliance! HPA is a non-profit that uses the themes of Harry Potter to fight the Dark Arts in the real world. And they’re totally awesome. And since it’s the holidays, if you’re looking for a gift for someone who loves HP and you want to do some good at the same time, check out their merchandise or just take a look at some of their projects.
AND! Two of the best internet people, Hank and John Green aka The Vlog Brothers, are partnering with HPA to host their annual Project for Awesome which gathers the entire YouTube community together TODAY Dec 17th, to create videos and raise money for important causes. So check them out.
I am very bummed out because I just learned that I’m going to miss the Yule Ball(s) this weekend! The Yule Ball being an homage to the infamous Harry Potter event at which Harry and the Potters, Draco and the Malfoys and the Whomping Willows will all be performing! Ah well, I guess my sister and I will have to wait until next year to hear “Save Ginny Weasley” live and to be the “weird sisters”.
reason #567 why alex is an awesome boyfriend. he not only puts up with the fact that I love NPR in all its nerdy glory, but he also got me this incredibly comfy tee so I can show everyone just how much.
